"When I Come Around" is a single from Green Day's album Dookie from 1994. It was the second-to-last single from the album, showing Green Day's largely pop influences. The three minute track is a showcase of Green Day's upbeat riffs. It is said that Billie Joe Armstrong wrote the song after having a fight with his wife Adrienne and needed to spend some time alone. They are still together and have two sons.
The song is in the key of F# Major and the main riff consists of the chords: F#5, C#5, D# minor, and B5. The vocals seem to bounce and wander through the upbeat guitar to make a very poppy sound.
Before the video was filmed, MTV used live performance of the song by the band at the 1994 Woodstock Festival.
