Other notes
- The town of Weed gets its name from the founder of the local lumber mill, one Abner Weed. In 1897 Abner Weed bought for the sum of $400.00, the Siskiyou Lumber and Mercantile Mill and 280 acres of land in what is now Weed.
- Caltrans, the California Department of Transportation, maintains roads signs in and around Weed. One sign that has historically needed constant attention read 'Weed Right - College Left'. The sign has been stolen so many times that Caltrans had to change it to 'City Center Right - College of the Siskiyous Left'. No surprise, the new sign has not been stolen.
- The band From First To Last recorded their second album Heroine (2006) at Radio Star Studios in Weed.
- The people of Weed have so far been patient with tourists amused by the town's name, due to the fact that "weed" is also slang for marijuana. Presumably, this level of tolerance exists because they will often buy souvenirs bearing the town's name before moving on.
- A highway sign on nearby U.S. Highway 97 reading "SOUTH US 97 Weed, San Francisco" has become somewhat popular as a gag photo-op spot.
- Weed was mentioned in John Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men as the place where George and Lennie had run away from.
- Mount Shasta is the second highest peak in the Cascade Range and in California.
- Crystal Geyser Natural Alpine Spring Water is also bottled here at 4 different spring sources below Mt. Shasta
