WWT National Wetlands Centre is one of nine wetland nature reserves managed by the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust, a nature conservation charity. The 500 acre (2.0 km²) reserve is situated one mile east of Llanelli and five miles (8 km) north of Swansea in south Wales, on the eastern side of Carmarthen Bay, and part of the Burry Inlet estuary which is an SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest), an SPA (Special Protection Area), and a Ramsar Site.
One of the endangered species protected at the centre is the Little Egret. In winter, more than 60,000 birds return here to overwinter.
