A value card is a behavioral self help device. The individual identifies what aspect(s) of his or her conduct require improvement, makes a tersely worded list of these areas or goals, and writes or otherwise prints the list on a card that can be carried in a wallet or pocket. For durability, the card may be laminated, or glued to a playing card or similarly stiff backing.
For example, a person who had a problem with frequent lateness could include "being on time" as an item on his or her card.
This technique utilizes a physical manifestation of desired behavior changes as a way of reminding or encouraging the desired change in behavior.
