The Utah Basketball League (or UBL) is the first ever basketball association/league in Utah and grew from 12 to 27 teams since its formation (October 2005).
When it was established, it had its first twelve teams (Logan Flames, Provo Mirage, Salt Lake Devils, Park City Knights, Ogden Rockets, Draper Coyotes, Spanish Fork Avengers, Orem Panthers, Syracuse Eagles, Murray Volcanoes, Woods Cross Ballhogs, and Tooele Killer Sharks). Then it grew to 25 teams with thirteen more teams, the Morgan Maniax, Farmington Dunkers, Garland Matadors, Davis Silver Bullets, Sandy Galaxy, Riverdale Tigers, Bountiful Cowboys, Cedar City Crushers, Farr West Razors, Bear River 51's, St. George Vipers, Promontory 69ers, and Moab Falcons. Then it added two more teams, the West Valley Dragons and Uintah Earthquakes. There might be plans for expansion teams that could expand the league to twenty-eight to thirty teams. The top candidates for the new UBL team's city are Brigham City, Box Elder, and Coalville.
The league's only state champions were Park City last October, (when the league was formed) when they beat Tooele 68-56, and Morgan, when they beat Bountiful 94-93 on a game-winner.
As of Independence Day 2006, only four teams play in a real Utah arena (Salt Lake Devils, Delta Center; Ogden Rockets, Golden Spike Arena; Provo Mirage, Marriott Center; West Valley Dragons, E Center).
