Ürümqi (English IPA: ; Uyghur: ئۈرۈمچی; Uyghur Latin script: Ürümqi; ), with a population about 1.6 million, is the capital of the Xinjiang Autonomous Region of the People's Republic of China, in the northwest of the country.
