The Upper Sioux Indian Reservation is located along the Minnesota River in Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota five miles (8 km) south of Granite Falls. It was created in 1938 when 746 acres (3 km²) of land were returned to the tribe. Most of the land along the river valley had been taken from the Dakota following the Sioux Uprising of 1862. As of the 2002 census, the community recorded a population of 47.
The tribe operates the Firefly Creek Casino to help raise funds.
A new casino, Prairie's Edge Casino Resort, replaced the old casino. Firefly Creek Casino is now a Bingo Hall.
