U.S. Highway 36 is an east-west United States highway that runs for 1,414 miles (2,276 km) from east-central Ohio to Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado.

Road Condition
For the
Missouri portion of the highway,
MoDot is working on upgrading to a four-lane divided highway across the state by 2011. Presently, it is 4 lanes between the
Missouri River and the
Linn County, Missouri/
Macon County, Missouri line. There is ongoing road construction on the 8 miles between the
Linn County, Missouri/
Macon County, Missouri line and
Callao, Missouri that when finished will have a 4 lane highway running from
Macon, Missouri to
St. Joseph, Missouri.
With the passage of Proposition 36B, the US-36/I-72 Corridor Transporation District was created to help fund construction to convert the remaining 52 miles of 2-lane highway between Macon, Missouri and the Rocket Junction 7 miles west of Hannibal, Missouri by December 31, 2010. East of the Rocket Junction, US 36 is a 4-lane highway to US 61, where I-72 takes over the alignment.
