Twinrova are a pair of fictional witches from the Legend of Zelda series. Their name is derived from 'twin' and the Japanese word 'rouba' (老婆), meaning 'old woman'.
The two Gerudo witches, Kotake (Ice) and Koume (Fire) play an important role in a few games in the Zelda series. They are both the surrogate mothers of the Gerudo King, Ganondorf, being somewhat his more devoted servants. Their specialty is brainwashing others to serve Ganondorf and merging to form the stronger witch "Twinrova", where their combined power is much deadlier. The brooms the sisters use to fly become scepters Twinrova performs her spells with.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Kotake and Koume reside in the
Ocarina of Time places#Spirit Temple. They kidnap
Ocarina of Time characters#Nabooru (the rebellious second-in-command of the Gerudos) who is the Sage of Spirit. They brainwash her, disguise her as an
Iron Knuckle, and make her face
Link. Link wins this battle and releases Nabooru.
Koume and Kotake fight with magic bolts of the elements they each had power over: fire and ice. Using the
Ocarina of Time weapons and items#Shields, Link was able to redirect their attacks at each other - this part requires four hits. Once merged into Twinrova (24
HP), the
Ocarina of Time weapons and items#Shields proves essential once more in defeating them. At the end of the battle there is a humorous cutscene of the two sisters with halos over their heads rising to the heavens (oddly enough) , weirdly, as they argue about their ages and insist that one or the other is senile. "But I'm only 400!" "And I'm only 380!" "How can you be younger?! We're twins!"
Oracles
In
Oracle of Ages and
Oracle of Seasons, Koume and Kotake sent
Veran and
Onox to cause chaos and light two of the three flames needed to resurrect Ganondorf; the Flame of Sorrow and the Flame of Destruction. Once the flames were lit, the two kidnapped Zelda to light the final flame via sacrifice: the Flame of Despair. Link fought the sisters as separate entities and as Twinrova. Defeated, the two became victims of their own ritual, acting as the vessel for Ganon instead of Zelda. Unfortunately for the pair, their sacrifice was in vain, as it only allowed a mindless, raging Ganon to come forth. Thus, Link was able to defeat it and save the day.
Minor
The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
The Koume & Kotake of the parallel world of Termina are generally good and nothing like their Hyrule counterparts. The two run their own potion shop, with Koume searching for mushrooms in the nearby forest while Kotake generally stays at the shop. Koume also serves as the swamp boat tour guide.
Kotake was first found flying to search for Koume in the Woods of Mystery since Koume took so long to find some mushrooms. When the player goes somewhere in the Woods of Mystery, Kotake will ask him/her about Koume.
The player will later find Koume a few miles away wounded. She tells them about the
Skull Kid and asks for a healing potion to ammend her injuries. After the player gives the potion, the sister returned to help run the swamp boat tour guide and assist the player.
Manga
It seems the two never fuse to form Twinrova in the manga.
Ocarina of Time
Koume & Kotake first appeared in Ganon's castle in the shadows as Ganondorf was talking about how he should have killed Link. They later brainwashed Ingo, after Ganondorf had given him Lon Lon ranch, and told him to kill the hero of time. It was later revealed that they had brainwashed Nabooru, and thought that Sheik was a traitor to Lord Ganondorf. They saw Sheik show Link that she was really princess Zelda, and attacked both Link and Zelda, chasing them into the Spirit Temple. Koume attacked Link until Nabooru appeared and gave Link the Mirror Shield, which he used to reflect the fire attack back on the two sorceress sisters and killed them. Unlike in the game, Koume could conjure monsters from Sand, and they are never seen with their hair in giant buns as in the game.
Oracles
The two remained in the shadows while Veran and Onox were doing their dirty work. The Twinrova Sisters made their presence known when one of them posed as a helpless old lady to hinder Link from getting to Onox's fortress and later when they resurrected Ganon.
