Trial and Error is a film released in 1997 by New Line Cinema starring Michael Richards, Jeff Daniels, and Charlize Theron.

An attorney's actor friend takes his place in court, defending the boss's hopelessly guilty relative.

Plot


Charlie Tuttle is a partner in a successful law firm who is supposed to go to Paradise Bluff, Nevada to request a continuance in a case. But that conflicts with his bachelor's party so his best man, actor Richard Rietti (Michael Richards) drives him out to Paradise Bluff and shows his friend a great time instead. Charlie winds up in no shape to appear in court the next day as the representative of Benny Gibbs (Rip Torn) so Richard impersonates Charlie but case ends up going to trial with an actor posing as the defendant's lawyer.
