The Treaty of Edinburgh was drawn up in 1560 by the Parliament of Scotland in an attempt to formally end the Auld Alliance. However it was not ratified by Mary I of Scotland, the reigning monarch at the time, despite considerable pressure upon her to do so over the period until 1587. Even so it had the intended effect of the withdrawal of French troops from Scotland at the time.
