Tourist is the second full-length album by British rock band Athlete, first released in early 2005 (see 2005 in music).
For their sophomore album, Athlete has shown a maturation in their musical style. While their Mercury Music Prize-nominated debut Vehicles and Animals was jovial and poppy, Tourist is slower, sombre and more sensitive (arguably with similarities to Coldplay). "Wires", the first single taken from the album, entered at number 4 in the UK Singles Chart, becoming their highest-charting single so far. The album itself climbed to the top of the UK Album Chart on the week of its release.
Despite the album's commercial success, Tourist had a mixed reception, with some critics suggesting that Athlete failed to sustain the unique style of their previous album. Others saw the new album as a logical progression from their old sound.
At the end of 2005, Tourist became the 32nd best-selling album of the year in the UK, and "Wires" was the 89th best-selling single.
