Tortex is an modern plastic that was created by Jim Dunlop to replace tortoiseshell guitar picks after an international ban was placed on the trade of tortiseshell in the late 1970s. Tortex is almost exclusively used in guitar picks, and almost all tortex picks are created by the Jim Dunlop company.

Tortex picks are used by the majority of guitar players and are the most popular material for guitar picks.
