Tokyo Institute of Technology (東京工業大学; Tōkyō Kōgyō Daigaku), often called TiTech or Tōkōdai (東工大) for short, is the largest institution of higher learning in Japan dedicated to science and technology.
It was founded in 1881 in Tokyo as the Tokyo Vocational School. In 1929, it was elevated to the status of national university, and has since April 2004 been incorporated (i.e. semi-privatized) under a new law* which applies to all national universities.
The university is a member of LAOTSE, an international network of leading universities in Europe and Asia exchanging students and senior scholars.
