Tilden is a city in Nebraska. The city is located mostly within Madison County with a portion of the city in Antelope County. It is perhaps most notable for being the birthplace of American author L. Ron Hubbard in 1911 and famous baseball player and broadcaster Richie Ashburn in 1927.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.9 km² (0.7 mi²). None of the area is covered with water.
There were 418 households out of which 28.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.8% were married couples living together, 6.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 35.2% were non-families. 31.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 20.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.45 and the average family size was 3.11.
In the city the population was spread out with 25.6% under the age of 18, 8.9% from 18 to 24, 22.4% from 25 to 44, 18.6% from 45 to 64, and 24.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 91.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.3 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $31,875, and the median income for a family was $42,188. Males had a median income of $29,750 versus $19,844 for females. The per capita income for the city was $14,663. About 7.0% of families and 11.1% of the population were below the poverty line, including 17.6% of those under age 18 and 8.5% of those age 65 or over.
