Tickseed is the common name for the plant Coreopsis, a group of flowering plants in the Family Asteraceae and Genus Coreopis. The flowers are usually yellow with a toothed tip. The name is derived from the Greek word koris, meaning Bedbug. The plants are also popularly called "Calliopsis."
This genus is primarily native to North America. Many cultivars are available for gardens.
Coreopsis species are used as food plants by the larvae of some Lepidoptera species including Coleophora acamtopappi.
