Thyronamines are decarboxylated and deiodinated metabolites of the thyroid hormones thyroxine (T4) and 3,5,3'-triiodothyronine (T3).
The thyronamine 3-iodothyronamine (T1AM) is a natural, high-affinity ligand for the trace amine-associated receptor TAAR1 (TAR1, TA1), a G-protein-coupled receptor. In rodents, T1AM causes a rapid drop in body temperature when injected.
