The Suite Life of Zack and Cody also known as The Suite Life is an American television series airing on the Disney Channel since Friday, March 18, 2005.

This series' original title was simply The Suite Life. The show's logo references this, as it has a gold sign reading "The Suite Life", with a paper sign reading "of Zack & Cody" taped on to it. The adjective suite has the same pronunciation of "sweet" in English, a clear reference to the twins' "sweet life" in a hotel, or "suite" as in a hotel room.

Zack and Cody Martin (Dylan and Cole Sprouse) are identical twins whose single mother, Carey, (Kim Rhodes) has a gig as headlining singer at the Tipton Hotel. They used to live on the road, but now they live in the swankiest hotel in Boston, as part of her contract, an upper floor suite in the hotel is where they all live. The Martin twins were 12-years-old (mentioned in numerous episodes in the first season) at the beginning of the series and they are now 13 (mentioned in Moseby's Big Brother).

The sitcom is the second highest rated show on the Disney Channel, right behind That's So Raven. As of December 2005, the show was rated #336 on the Nielsen TV Ratings Best Shows of 2005.

Main Characters

Zack Martin (played by Dylan Sprouse) — Ever willing to get in trouble, Zack always sets out to get exactly what he wants. He is a big Red Sox fan and he hates the Yankees. He loves to skateboard, play basketball, soccer, and get in trouble. He doesn't stop with only getting himself into trouble, he drags his brother into it with him almost all the time. He has also shown skill with dancing and he is really good in woodshop as said in Books & Birdhouses. He generally dresses casually (while his brother dresses more conservatively) and is very sloppy (while his brother is neat). He has a huge crush on Maddie (the Tipton candy counter girl and his babysitter), but it seems to disappear in the second season. Zack is only 15 minutes older than Cody. He is a great bowler as illustrated in "Bowling" with an average of 225. Cody Martin (played by Cole Sprouse) — Cody is the nicer and smarter twin, but he often plays along with his brother's schemes. He shows less interest in girls than his brother, and is more mature. Maddie is very hard-working and caring of other people. She is also very smart, and often must find ways to avoid being blamed for the boys' handywork while she babysits them. Maddie is one of London's closer friends, although London often treats her more like a servant, usually bribing her with 100 or 1,000 dollars. They often have little fights, but in the end they always make up. Maddie lives across the street from Fenway Park. In her apartment, she watches the Red Sox games from her window. She has an older, married sister who has moved out of the family apartment, giving Maddie their shared bedroom all to herself, as revealed in "Poor Little Rich Girl", which also describes her grandmother living with the family, and Maddie's parents having very loud arguments regularly. In "The Prince & The Plunger" it was shown that her secret admirer is Arwin Quentin Hawkhauser. We learn that Carey found her talent for singing by mistake when she was at a talent show doing stand-up comedy. In "Moseby's Big Brother", she reveals she has a younger sister whom she no longer talks to. In "Free Tippy" and "The Suite Smell of Excess", we see that she is very fond of George Clooney.

Marion Moseby (played by Phill Lewis) — The manager of the Tipton, Mr. Moseby is often exasperated by the twins' antics. He often acts as though he does not care about the boys, though he secretly does, as shown in the episode "Big Hair & Baseball". In "The Ghost of 613", it is revealed that he started out at the Tipton as a bellhop back in the 1970's and during this time he had an afro. He has been a surrogate father to London. He can speak French fluently. Mr. Moseby also has an older brother named Spencer (played by Dana Michael Woods), as seen in Moseby's Big Brother, but got treated unfairly because he wasn't "lactose intolerant. Recurring Characters

  • Esteban Julio Ricardo Montoya De La Rosa Ramírez (played by Adrian R'Mante) — The earnest bellboy of the Tipton of hispanic descent. He has a good heart and likes the Martin boys. Esteban dreams of becoming the manager of the Tipton Hotel as shown in episodes "Pilot Your Own Life". He originally came to United States to be a baseball player, but he isn't very good at it. So he settled for a bellhop. He has appeared in many episodes in both the first and second seasons, including "Hotel Hangout", "Footloser", "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad Hotel", "Moseby's Big Brother", and "Bowling". He once affected a Southern accent after being taught by a Texan diction coach but unlearned it eventually due to his dislike of the accent. Estaban was made an American citizen in the episode "Boston Tea Party". Esteban also had to take care of Harry, a con-artist in the episode Have A Nice Trip. He has a pet chicken named Dudley. He refers to Zack, Cody, and Maddie as "little blonde peoples".

Minor Characters

  • Lance (played by Aaron Musicant)- is a lifeguard who London set Maddie up with a blind date with. He only talks about water, and for that Maddie dumped him. They are stil friends, however. Lance showed Maddie how to do CPR. He has appeared in "Hotel Hangout", "Band in Boston", and "Rumors".

  • Liam Fitzpatrick (played by Cody Arens) is Maddie's little brother and qualifies as "booger" from his sister. He is irresponsible and rude. Although talked frequently by Maddie, he has only appeared in one episode "Not So Sweet 16". He had to get braces.

Theme song

The theme song for The Suite Life of Zack and Cody is called "Here I Am" and was written by John Adair and Steve Hampton. It was sung by Loren Ellis and The Drew Davis Band*, who are also the singers for the theme song of Phil of the Future. However, the original choice for a theme song was "Grow Up" by Simple Plan.

Continuity Errors

  • In Free Tippy, it was announced that Mr. Tipton has a strict policy of employees retiring at the age of 65. Muriel is over 65, as she was working at the Tipton in 1938 as mentioned in It's a Mad, Mad, Mad Hotel (maybe Mr. Tipton added the policy during the 2nd season of the show somewhere in time, and yet Muriel doesn't appear in the 2nd season so far, so maybe she had to leave the Tipton, because of the policy).
  • In Forever Plaid, before the girls soccer team poked the boys eyes, in Bob's place when he was peeping you saw an eye looking back (although may be intentional, to show the girls saw the boys).
  • In Odd Couples, when Zack rings the doorbell on Cody's closet there is a mailbox but when Zack comes out the mailbox is no longer there.
  • In Commercial Breaks, when Zack, Cody, and Carey got out of the elevator and wait in the line, you can see that Esteban and Maddie are way before them since they went to the back of the line later. But during the auditon, Maddie was just behind them.
  • In Commercial Breaks, when Esteban pointed to the end of the line, you can see that Maddie is still in her work outfit, but later during the audition she's no longer in it anymore{she could have changed}.
  • In Boston Holiday, in Mr. Moseby's attempt to plug the Tipton, he starts to state the number 1-800-555- (he doesn't get to finish it). However in Commercial Breaks, we see the number as 1-800-654-2192 (although they could have changed it).
  • In Pilot Your Own Life, Zack falls asleep on a chair and has his feet on the floor, they switch to Cody and back to Zack and his feet are on the other chair were Cody was sitting on.
  • In Grounded on the 23rd Floor, when Maddie requested her candies back in exchange for the cameras, we see the whole pile of candies on the counter. The view changed to Maddie passing the camera to Zack, and the next scene, the counter is empty except for some papers and a pen.
  • In Ask Zack, English twins Jessica and Janice are shown working on the school paper at Zack and Cody's school, but in Twins At The Tipton, it was intended that they were visiting America for the Twins Convention at the Tipton.

Trivia

  • On the Family Channel (Canada), instead of airing "Odd Couples" as the premier of Season 2, they aired the episode "French 101". They also did that with Season 1. They go by the date it was filmed instead of episode order.
  • The Suite Life of Zack and Cody was one of the first five television shows available for purchase in the iTunes Music Store.
  • The episode "Kisses & Basketball" was voted the First New Episode of 2006 on Disney Channel's "Totally Suite New Year's Eve".
  • Dylan and Cole starred in the 2003 film Just for Kicks, where their surnames were "Martin". In The Suite Life of Zack and Cody, their last names are also "Martin".
  • In "Twins At The Tipton, "Bob explains to Zack how he heard about Cody's girlfriend breaking up with him, says: "Kim told Phil, who told Ashley, who told Brenda, who told Dylan, who told Cole, who told me — (deep breath) — it's over". These are the real names of the shows stars.
  • Ilsa was the subject of a pun by Mr. Moseby stating "who's the biggest loser now" hinting Caroline Rhea as a the host of the NBC reality series The Biggest Loser.
  • In "Going for the Gold," Irv Wheldon exchanges Arwin's Cunningham 200 on/off switch with a Fonzarelli 22. Richie Cunningham and Arthur "The Fonz/Fonzie" Fonzarelli were characters on Happy Days.
  • Our Lady of Perpetual Sorrow is the school that Maddie goes to and is also the school that Donna Pinciotti goes to on That 70's Show.
  • Ashley Tisdale tried out for the roles of both London and Maddie.
  • Although The Tipton Hotel is supposed to be in Boston, Massachusets, the hotel exteriors shown in the series are actually the Fairmont Hotel in Vancouver, British Columbia.
  • In the episode Free Tippy, it states that employees at the Tipton have to retire once they reach the age of 65, which may be hinting at the fact that Disney Channel shows usually only go up to 65 episodes before ending.
