The Sims: Livin' Large, also called The Sims: Livin' It Up in the United Kingdom, is the first expansion pack released for the strategy/simulation computer game, The Sims. Livin' Large adds extra characters and some new items in the game.

New items

  • Home chemistry lab — Sims can increase their logic skill by making potions. They can also choose to drink the potions they have made, causing them to experience various effects such as becoming invisible, turning into a monster, and more.
  • Magic lamp — If Sims are looking for love or just want some extra money, they can rub the lamp to summon a purple genie who can grant them their wishes. However, not all effects of the lamp are positive--the genie can sometimes make the Sims' wishes go awry.
  • Vibromatic heart bed — This romantic bed gives your Sims great comfort to sleep in and also gives your Sims the chance to play in bed. But remember--it takes two to tango.
  • Electric guitar — With practice, your hard-rocking Sims will draw crowds of dancing admirers--or will they?
  • Crystal ball — Unravel the Crystal Ball's riddles and follow its advice to improve your Sims' personality and gaze into the future.
  • Servo — Though expensive, this robot is a "one-size-fits-all" object. Players purchase the docking pod for §15,000. If anything must be done, the Sims can activate Servo, who then goes into a routine of cooking, gardening, and cleaning (therefore eliminating the need for a maid or gardener).

Tragic Clown A new character to this game is the tragic clown who is always depressed and is never good at performing tricks. The clown comes to your Sims house when your sim is depressed and has looked at the "Tragic Clown" painting. He is usually very annoying. He stops your sim from getting to sleep and it doesn't matter how many times you ask him to leave, he never does. The only way to get rid of him is to make your sim happy or to call the clown catchers. (A download originally offered by Maxis on the official website.) Another way that has been discovered by fans is that you light a fire with an untalented person. The house is lit on fire, and you lure the clown over to the flames, killing him. The most popular way to get rid of the clown is to let him go to a room and have him see his picture of himself. He will hopefully get embarrassed, go away, and probably never come back.

Grim Reaper Another new character to this game is the Grim Reaper The Grim Reaper comes to your Sim's house and collect the souls of dead sims. If other Sims in the family who have not died are around, they have the chance to plea. If the Grim Reaper allows them to, the Sim and the Grim Reaper will play a game of rock-paper-scissors to decide the dying Sim's fate. However, even if the Grim Reaper wins, it may not mean that your Sim is dead.
