The Palms Casino Hotel is a resort located west of the Las Vegas Strip. The hotel has 802 rooms and contains a 95,000 square foot casino, a recording studio and a 2,200 seat showroom and is owned and operated by the Maloof family.

Despite the fact that it is located off the Strip, the resort has become a popular and hip destination for many, especially with the younger crowd and Hollywood celebrities.

History

The Palms opened on November 15, 2001 and was designed by Jon Jerde.

In 2002 it was the resort where participants of MTV's Real World Las Vegas stayed. The level they rebuilt to accommodate MTV is now the "Real World Suite", and is available for reservations to this day.

In October of 2005, the second tower, dubbed the "Fantasy Tower", opened at a cost of $600 million. In keeping with the Maloof family basketball interest, the new tower includes a two story 10,000 square foot suite that includes the worlds only basketball court in a hotel suite. The suite includes a locker room. The second tower is not complete, but portions are being opened while the higher floor are still being constructed.

Recently Maloof announced a third condo tower called Palms Place be built on the west end of the Palms property. This third and final tower is now under construction.

Trivia

The Palms shares many of the qualites of the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino- both appeal to a more younger crowd(20 to 30) and both appeal to those who like the neo-retro feel of Las Vegas. It has been said however that many who originally enjoyed the Hard Rock now find The Palms to be more appealing.

The Palms has many rooms designed for taller people (basketball players). These adjustments include taller doors, higher showerheads and longer beds.

Home to Hart & Huntington Tattoo Company which has become an attraction on its own. The A&E show Inked shows the daily operations of the shop in a reality television setting. The Palms is also the home of Celebrity Poker Showdown on Bravo
