The Northern Way was set up by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister in 2004 as an initiative to close the large productivity gap between the north and south of England. The current difference in productivity levels between the two economies equates to approximately £30 billion. The Northern Way is being led by the three Northern Regional Development Agencies (RDAs) - Yorkshire Forward, One NorthEast and the Northwest Regional Development Agency. By collaborating with Government and regional stakeholders, it will develop a long-term strategy for growing the economy of the whole of the North.
