The Hero's Journey is a documentary film (1987) and a companion book (1990) based upon the life and scholarship of Joseph Campbell.

The documentary


The one hour documentary was directed by Janelle Balnicke and David Kennard. It is based upon interviews between Phil Cousineau and Joseph Campbell. It was initially released on March 22, 1987 at the New York New Directors and New Films Festival. It was later shown on PBS.

The book


The companion book to the documentary, The Hero's Journey: Joseph Campbell on His Life and Work was released a few years later in 1990. The book expands the interviews between between Phil Cousineau and Joseph Campbell.
