The Archie Show was the first in a long line of Saturday morning cartoon animated series produced by Filmation and based upon Bob Montana's Archie characters. The Archie Show first debuted on CBS in September 1968, and Archie Andrews and his pals appeared in various spin-off shows on Saturday mornings until 1978.

The franchise's most famous effort was the music element - The Archies musical group, with lead vocals provided by Ron Dante, produced the hit single "Sugar, Sugar" in 1969. Like most animated comedies at the time, The Archie Show contained a laugh track.
