Texans are residents or natives of the state of Texas (or the former Republic of Texas) in The United States of America. Anglo-American citizens of the former Republic of Texas were alternately called Texians, while the Hispanic-American citizens of the area retain the designation of Tejanos to this day.

In professional sports, there have been five American football teams, and one Canadian football team to use the name "Texans":

• Most notably, the current Houston Texans were added by the National Football League in 2002 as an expansion team, filling the vacuum created by the 1997 departure of the Houston Oilers to Nashville, Tennessee (where they were later renamed the Tennessee Titans in 1999). Best known Texans team, and is currently the only active Texans team.
• In 1993, the Canadian Football League awarded San Antonio a team called the San Antonio Texans, but the team never played a game. Then in 1995, the Sacramento Gold Miners of the same league relocated to the Alamodome and became the San Antonio Texans. The team folded at the end of the season, however.
• The latest Dallas Texans were an Arena Football League team in the 1990s.
• The earliest Houston Texans played in the World Football League in 1974 before leaving to become the Shreveport Steamer.
• Another Dallas Texans team played in the American Football League from 1960-1962 before leaving the state to become the Kansas City Chiefs.
• The first Dallas Texans played only in 1952, folded, and later rejoined the National Football League as the Baltimore Colts (who have existed as the Indianapolis Colts since 1984).
