Ted Tollner was the head coach of the USC Trojans football program from 1983 to 1986. During his tenure he compiled a 26-20-1 record. He is currently the tight ends coach for the Detroit Lions.He served as the Wide Receivers coach for the Buffalo Bills from 1987 to 1988. He served as the Offensive Coordinator for the San Diego Chargers from 1989 to 1991. He served as the Quarterbacks coach for the Los Angeles Rams from 1992 to 1993, and was the Offensive Coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers.

He began his coaching career at Woodside High School in California. He coached at San Mateo College from 1968 to 1972. He served as the Offensive Coordinator for San Diego State from 1973 to 1980. He also served as the Quarterbacks coach at Brigham Young in 1981. He is considered one of the finest offensive coordinators in the NFL.
