'' Super Bowl XLIII will be the 43rd Super Bowl, the annual championship game of the National Football League (NFL) between the National Football Conference (NFC) and American Football Conference (AFC) champions. The game is scheduled to be played on February 1, 2009. Tampa, Florida was selected for the game site on May 25, 2005, beating out three other finalists: Atlanta, Georgia, Houston, Texas and Miami, Florida. It will be the fourth Super Bowl played in Tampa, and the second in Raymond James Stadium. The game will be televised on NBC, which will be their first Super Bowl telecast since Super Bowl XXXII. Assuming that John Madden and Al Michaels are still under contract with NBC, they will call the game. It will be their first together since Super Bowl XL just three years earlier, but their first as employees of NBC.

Trivia

  • This will be the third Super Bowl broadcast by the tandem of Al Michaels and John Madden. Michaels handled play-by-play duties for six Super Bowls while with ABC and Madden was the analyst for 10 Super Bowl broadcasts while with CBS, FOX and ABC.
