Sunny Deol (born as Ajay Singh Deol on October 19, 1961 in New Delhi, India) is a Bollywood actor.

Family


His parents are actor Dharmendra and Dharmendra's first wife Prakash Kaur. He has three siblings: his brother, Babby Deol and his half-sisters Esha Deol and Ahana Deol. All three of them are actors. He is actress Hema Malini's stepson. He is married to Pooja and has two sons Rajvir and Ranvir, which are incidentally the names he chose for himself and Bobby Deol in his directorial debut Dillagi.

Career


As an Actor

His first movie was Ghazab (1982). A series of movies followed and though there were plenty of box office failures among them, Deol had lead roles in Ghayal, Ghatak, Border, Darr, Gadar and The Hero, action-oriented movies, which were the block busters at the box office.

As a director

Sunny Deol tried his hand at direction with Dillagi (1999) starring himself, Bobby Deol & Urmila Matondkar. Though the film was a commercial failure, Sunny Deol's direction was critically acclaimed.

Awards


He has won a couple of Indian National Awards for his performances in Ghayal (Injured) (1990) & Damini (1993). He stars in the highest grossing film of Indian cinema, Gadar - Ek Prem Katha (2001). His other major hits include his debut film Betaab (1983), Arjun (1985), Paap Ki Duniya (1988), Tridev (1989), Chaalbaaz (1989), Darr (Fear) (1993), Jeet (Victory) (1996), Ghatak (1996), Ziddi (1997), Border (1997) & Indian (2001).
