Studio XD was originally founded in summer of 1999 by Derek Liu (Lanzer), Long Vo (VO), Josh Gainsbrugh (L0cke) and Charles Park (CP) when they joined forces to develop and produce ECHO, a comic series to be published by Image Comics.

Studio XD is most famous for illustrating the Evolution comics but the also illustrate many other comics including Robotech and Last Shot.

Derek Liu, Long Vo, Josh Gainsbrugh are also known as the founders of the website Gaia Online.
