Streptococcus bovis is a Gram-positive bacterium. S. bovis is typically , non- or gamma-hemolytic, but may be alpha-hemolytic on sheep blood agar plates. Commonly found in the alimentary tract of cows, sheep, and other ruminants, it is occasionally found to be the offending agent in cases of human endocarditis. It is also a rare cause of neonatal septicemia and meningitis. It is also associated with colon cancer.

S. bovis gains entry through the GI tract.
