Stafford Smythe (-October 13, 1971) was the son of Conn Smythe and the owner of the Toronto Maple Leafs NHL team, which he inherited from his father and ultimately sold to Harold Ballard. (The two were joint owners until Smythe's death.) Smythe died days before he was to go on trial for income tax evasion.
The Stafford Smythe Memorial Trophy, awarded annually to the MVP of the Memorial Cup tournament, is named in his honour.
