The Society of Antiquaries of Scotland is an archaeological learned society formed for the purpose of studying the history of Scotland. The Society was established in 1780, incorporated in 1783 and has an international membership of around 3500 Fellows and 25 Honorary Fellows. Membership is not based on professional standing (as in the Society of Antiquaries of London), but rather on interest in historical studies. The Society has made the entire run of its journal (back to the 18th century) freely available on the internet (accessible through its website).
