"So Yesterday" is Hilary Duff's second single from her 2003 album Metamorphosis and her debut single in the UK. The single was released by Buena Vista Records on July 29, 2003 together with the song "Workin' It Out" as a b-side. It stormed music charts all over the world as well as massive airplays in 2003.

The video


The video for "So Yesterday" was played a lot on MTV and TRL and also on MuchMusic. The video is about Hilary Duff breaking up with her boyfriend, and not feeling sad about it. It has currently sold 8 Million videos and was named the Third Best-Selling Pop song of 2003 losing to Avril Lavigne's "Complicated" and "Sk8er Boi".

It was a hot favourite on MTV where it debuted at number one on all of its Charts like TRL and CHART!.

In Australia, the video was played at the Inaugural Ceremony of Prime Minister John Howard.

In Asia, it received massive airplay by MTV and sold 5 Million videos in India and China alone.

The video was directed by John Myers and was shot mainly in California. Hilary is said to have chosen the theme of the video after the recent breakup with Aaron Carter.

The single is said to have sold over 2 million units worldwide with most of the sales coming from Canada where it sold 1 million copies and earned a Diamond certification. The single is the best-selling debut single in Canadian Music history. It was also certified as a World Diamond Single, a feat which few artists have achieved.

The song was an instant hit among the charts and hit the top 20 in many countries. It also hit number one in Ireland, New Zealand ,and the European Official Airplay Chart (EOAC). The song stormed Asia where it quickly picked up 7 nominations, winning 4 of them. Its worldwide sales for the video stood at 1.2 million (8X Platinum according to VRIA).

In Australia, the single peaked at 8 and stayed in the top 10 for 6 weeks. However it spent a total of 20 weeks on the chart from its debut at 39 to its ending week at 45.

The single couldn't make it to number one despite having high sales. However Avril Lavigne's Complicated spent 3 weeks at number one with its sales of more than 800,000 per week. Hilary managed to sell only 300,000 per week and thus couldn't reach the top spot.

The song spent 19 days at number one and was one of the highest peaking TRL singles in 2003. The only other video to beat So Yesterday's record for the most days at number one in that year was Senorita by Justin Timberlake which spent 21 days at number one. They constantly fought for the top 2 spots and Senorita usually got better of So Yesterday.
