This article deals with the currency of modern Slovakia. For the currency of the WWII Slovak Republic see Slovak crown (WWII).
The Slovak koruna or Slovak crown (in Slovak Slovenská koruna; "koruna" means crown) has been the currency of Slovakia since February 8, 1993. It replaced the Czechoslovak koruna at par - see there for history. The ISO 4217 code is SKK and the local acronym is Sk. One koruna equals 100 haliers (abbreviated as "hal.", in Slovak singular: halier). The acronym is placed behind the numeric value.
In the Slovak language, the basic forms "koruna" and "halier" are used in their genitive forms, i.e. "korún" and "halierov" (only) after most numerals, unless the preposition or other circumstances require another case.
