Shivambu, or Shivambu Kalpa is the name given by some practitioners of urine therapy to the drinking of their own urine. This title is derived from the ancient Indian text Shivambu Kalpa Vidhi which (among other uses and prescriptions) suggests using aged, concentrated urine for skin massage. The word "shivambu" means the "waters of Shiva", and this practice is also known as amaroli in India.
It is reputed to have amazing healing properties, both preventitive and for those with illnesses. Urine is a sterile, saline liquid which is known to have beneficial chemicals and minerals which can be used internally or externally.
Insufficient imperical study has been done on the health benefits of urine topically or internally to create a unified medical stand-point, and it is also a socially taboo practice within many cultures.
