A shiplift is a modern alternative for a slipway, a floating dock or a graving dock. A shiplift is used to drydock ships and to launch the ships. It consists out of a steel structural platform that is lowered synchronously by a number of hoists. The platform is lowered under water, the ship is floated above the platform and the platform is lifted and brings the ship to quaylevel.
