Scott Niedermayer

Scott Niedermayer (born August 31 1973, in Edmonton, Alberta) is a professional ice hockey hockey player with the Anaheim Ducks in the NHL. Standing 6 ft 1 in, 200 pounds (91 kg), Niedermayer is considered to be one of the top defencemen in the league.

On August 4, 2005, Niedermayer joined his brother, Rob Niedermayer, when he signed a four-year, $27 million contract with the Ducks. Prior to joining the Ducks, Niedermayer had played all 12 of his NHL seasons for New Jersey. He has been selected to three All-Star Games (1998, 2001 and 2004), and has also won 3 Stanley Cups (1995, 2000, and 2003) . Scott was drafted in the first round of the 1991 NHL Entry Draft by New Jersey with the third overall selection from the Kamloops Blazers of the Western Hockey League (WHL), and was considered one of the most promising and offensively talented defencemen ever drafted out of the CHL.

Blessed with supreme natural hockey skills, Niedermayer's outstanding mobility, great speed, and almost unparalleled skating ability have also allowed him to turn into a defensive artist as well, making him an elite two-way force on defence. He routinely participates in the Fastest Skater competition at the NHL All-Star Game and is respected and recognized throughout the league for his incredible physical conditioning and work ethic.

From an offensive standpoint, his best season was during the 2005-2006 campaign when he had 63 points on 13 goals and 50 assists. In 2004, Niedermayer was rewarded for his excellent all-around performance, winning the James Norris Memorial Trophy, which is awarded to the best defenceman in the NHL at the culmination of the regular-season and playoffs.

Niedermayer was selected to play for Team Canada at the 2006 Olympics, but had to drop out due to injury.

Scott and his wife, Lisa, have three sons: John Logan, Jackson Robert, and Joshua.
