Sasan or Sassan (in Persian ساسان) was the great priest of Temple of Anahita and father of Papag (Babak) and grandfather Ardashir I, the establisher of the second Persian Empire, the Sassanid empire. The Empire's name Sassanid or Sassanian is derived from Sasan's name due Ardashir's kinship to Sasan. There isn't much known about Sasan's background or life. The only source containing information about Sassan is the Pahlavi book of Karnamak-i Artaxshir-i Papakan.
