Sassacus is also a genus of jumping spiders.

Sassacus was a Pequot chief, born near present day Groton, Connecticut, about 1560, and died in the Mohawk settlement in June, 1637. Sassacus was murdered by the Mohawks and his scalp was sent to the English.
