Sarah Thornton is a writer, ethnographer and sociologist of culture. Her book Music, Media and Subcultural Capital is an influential work in the study of subcultures. She is also co-editor of The Subcultures Reader. Thornton was a full-time lecturer in Media Studies at the University of Sussex and is now a Visiting Research Fellow at Goldsmiths' College, University of London. She writes about art and the art world for artforum.com, ArtReview and Art Monthly.
