Sara Douglass (Born 2 June 1957 in Penola, South Australia) is the pen name of Australian fantasy writer Dr. Sara Warneke, who lives in Hobart, Tasmania. Her works include the Axis trilogy, the Wayfarer Redemption trilogy, the Crucible trilogy and the Troy Game series. In the United States, and several European countries, the Axis Trilogy and the Wayfarer Redemption Trilogy were published as one six book series, The Wayfarer Redemption. It should also be noted that in the renamed six book series, the first book, Battleaxe, was retitled The Wayfarer Redemption.
Her first job involved working as a Registered Nurse, but she studied for her BA while working there, and was later to complete a PhD in early modern English history. She became a lecturer in medieval history at La Trobe University, Bendigo. Whilst there she was to complete her first novel, BattleAxe, which launched her as a popular fantasy author in Australia, and later overseas, with her international success continuing to grow.
The world of The Axis Trilogy, The Wayfarer Redemption, Beyond the Hanging Wall and Threshold is to be continued in the forthcoming Darkglass Mountain series.
Until the mid-2000s, she hosted a bulletin board on her website, which encouraged creative thinking and constructive criticism of others' work. The bulletin board was closed due to her other commitments, although many of its posters continue to contribute to other bulletin boards.
