The Sabaean language was an Old South Arabic language spoken in Yemen, and then in Ethiopia, up until the 8th Century AD. It was written in the South Arabian alphabet.
The Sabaean language was thought to have been replaced by the Ge'ez language and the South Arabic alphabet evolved into the Ge'ez alphabet; new archaelogical evidence1, however, points to the Sabaean and Ge'ez alphabets sharing a common ancestor, rather than Ge'ez being an offshoot of Sabaean.
