SOWPODS is the dictionary used in tournament Scrabble in all English-speaking countries except the USA, Canada, Thailand and Israel, which use the American Tournament Word List or TWL.

SOWPODS refers to the word list contained in Official Scrabble Words International (OSWI) published by Chambers Harrap. OSWI combines the words from Chambers' Official Scrabble Words (OSW) and Merriam Webster's Official Scrabble Players Dictionary (OSPD). The name SOWPODS is an anagram of OSPD and OSW. OSWI covers words up to nine letters long and their inflections. For longer words, the source dictionaries are used; these are The Chambers Dictionary 8th edition and Merriam Webster's Collegiate Dictionary 10th edition.

SOWPODS includes some 216553 words, including 121 two-letter words. In this latter group, knowledge of the words QI, XI and ZO is essential for beginners.
