Patrick Ryan O'Neal (born April 20, 1941) is an American actor.

Born in Los Angeles, California to an Irish-American Hollywood movie screenwriter Charles O'Neal and actress Patricia Callaghan, O'Neal first shot to stardom on the soap opera Peyton Place.

His role in Love Story gained him an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor. Further starring roles have been in Paper Moon (co-starring his daughter, Oscar-winner Tatum O'Neal), the Stanley Kubrick directed Barry Lyndon, and the Love Story sequel, Oliver's Story.

O'Neal starred in a series of films directed by Peter Bogdanovich and was regarded as one of the biggest box office draws of the 1970s but after back to back flops his career faded. He has also appeared in several television series.

He has been in a very long-term (off and on again) relationship with actress Farrah Fawcett.

He was diagnosed with leukemia and (as of 2006) he is in remission.
