Rowan Manahan is an Irish businessman and writer.

Manahan is the author of the job-hunting and careers book ''Where's My Oasis? (ISBN 0091899982), published by the Vermilion imprint of the Random House publishing group. Born in Dublin, Ireland, Manahan was educated at Blackrock College and University College Dublin. Following a management career in the multinationals, he established a consulting firm specialising in careers and work-related issues.

Manahan serves as an executive career advisor for many jobsites, newspapers and magazines and has appeared on television and radio talking about his ideas. He espouses a clear set of principles which underpin his recommended approach to the careers market:

1. There is no point in lying when you are job-hunting, as you will merely end up in a round-peg-in-square-hole dilemma in your new job.

2. (Quoting Louis Pasteur): Chance favours the prepared mind. 90% of mistakes made by job-hunters derive from inadequate preparation. You must know yourself, understand your value to an employer, understand the employer's needs and concerns, and understand the wider market forces which impinge upon the role you are applying for.

3. Remember it is only a job! Stress is fast becoming the number one occupational hazard. This snowballing of pressure has led to an unprecedented expansion of stress-related illness and absenteeism. It is imperative to maintain a healthy perspective for both your job-hunt and your ensuing career.
