Rock Star is a television series in which aspiring singers compete to become the lead singer of a featured group. In INXS, the band was Australian rock legends INXS; for Supernova, the band is Supernova, a supergroup formed expressly for the series.
Rock Star is produced by Mark Burnett and hosted by Dave Navarro and Brooke Burke.
In March, 2006, it was announced that the new season would focus on finding a lead singer for a new group entitled Supernova, featuring Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee, former Metallica bassist Jason Newsted, and former Guns N' Roses guitarist Gilby Clarke. The second season of Rock Star premiered on July 5, 2006 on CBS in the United States. The next season of Rock Star is expected in the summer of 2006 on Global in Canada. Once again, it will be hosted by Dave Navarro and Brooke Burke. The likes of Slash, Macy Gray and Rob Zombie have agreed to make appearances.
The newly formed Supernova will record an album after the show's run followed by a world tour in early 2007.
