Robot Master is also a character in the Transformers comics.

In the Mega Man original series, a Robot Master (AKA "Super Robot") is a special kind of robot or android that possesses a very advanced level of artificial intelligence. there are roughly one hundred thirty six Robot Masters. The Robot Master AI system is credited to Dr. Thomas Light. Most Robot Masters possess a unique identification code, consisting of a two-letter "series code" followed by one of N, No, or #, then a three-digit "serial number".

Robot Masters have AIs vastly superior to the smaller, minor robots within the Mega Man universe. This, even more than their generally humanoid appearance (after all, Sniper Joes are also humanoid, yet obviously inferior to Robot Masters) is what separates Robot Masters from other advanced robots. They often are designed with a particular strength or element in mind, thus allowing them to thrive in specific environments. Robot Masters tend to be programmed with human-like personalities and quirks, advanced enough to fool most people into believing them to think and act of their own accord. However, this is not true, as the Mega Man X series states X as the first robot to truly be able to think for himself. Robot Masters have a certain capability of thought and will--this allows them to be decisive on the battlefield, yet cannot generally operate beyond certain guildines. There have been some exceptions, such as Proto Man, Ballade, and King, but every one of these occurrences can be explained away somehow--either the robot is faulty to begin with or could have malfunctioned due to damage incurred.

Another telling feature of a Robot Master is their special "weapons," which are generally specialized for that robot and his environment. There is a system that allows a robot to copy that weapon and use it against his foes, but the only documented robots that possess this feature (at least in the classic series) are Mega Man, Proto Man, Bass, and Duo.

Proto Man, Rock/Mega, and Roll are all Robot Masters, but they are not usually thought of as such by fans due to their standing as main characters, and the fact that they seem even more advanced still.

NOTE: Some of these Robot Masters have NetNavi counterparts in the MegaMan Battle Network series. The ones that have them will be noted.

List of Robot Masters

DRN is the series code for Right Labs, specifically, "Dr. Right Numbers". Despite changing the incorrect translation of Dr. Right to the proper Dr. Light in the English-version games, the code has remained the same.

DRN series

Image Series Number Name Short Description Weapon NetNavi Counterpart
DRN-000 Blues Proto Man (ブルース) Blues/Proto Buster, Blues/Proto Shield Yes
DRN-001 Rock Mega (ロック)
Rock/Mega Kick (as Rock/Mega), Rock/Mega Buster (as Rockman/Mega Man), Sakugarne (as Quint) Yes
DRN-002 Roll Roll (ロール) Roll Swing Yes
DRN-003 Cut Man Cut Man (カットマン) Designed for land reclamation work; in particular deforestation. Cut Man is an innocent child-like robot who was tricked by Dr. Wily on several occasions, and is shown to be quite stubborn and determined when he has a goal for himself. He appears to be very polite, and always greets others formally. He was completely shocked when he saw his brother Rock as the "evil" fighting robot Mega Man for the first time, and displayed a lot of emotion and concern for him before battling with the intention of bringing his body back to Dr. Wily to make him "good". In Mega Man Powered Up he is the only character besides Mega Man who will attempt to reason with the other robot masters. His battle abilities center around his advanced jumping abilities and the pair of boomerang-like shears on his head. The Cutter is made of "cermicaltitan". He is the second most appearing robot master. Rolling Cutter (ローリングカッター) Yes
DRN-004 Guts Man Guts Man (ガッツマン) Also designed for land reclamation work, but also used in construction of public works. He is Bomb Man's superior when on the job. Though lacking in common intellect, his brute strength allows him to lift very heavy objects over his head and hurl them at his foe with startling accuracy. He is shown to act aggressively towards anyone who interferes with the construction site. Surprisingly, he has an affection for karaoke, and is good buddies with Stone Man. Guts Man is quite popular in the Mega Man world and is somewhat of an icon for the series since he has appeared in several games in different forms. Super Arm (スーパーアーム) Yes
DRN-005 Ice Man Ice Man (アイスマン) Originally designed for the exploration and mapping of regions far below the temperature that humans can withstand, he also supervises transportation of supplies to various research teams on the continent. Afterwards, he got the job of transporting materials in cold warehouses. He is shown to have what could be considered a split personality disorder, as he acts like he is both giving and receiving orders (which is unusual for a robot). This behavior is easily seen when Dr. Wily has control over him, and he otherwise appears to be in "soldier" form rather than the "sir" he refers to in his boss battle. However, there is evidence that he's faking this attitude; his Mega Man and Bass Database entry doesn't mention this, instead listing him as "self-centered" and a "showoff", which could contribute to him speaking like that. On rare occasions, he has hinted that among all his siblings, he especially likes Roll. He has the ability to shoot waves of super-chilled air from his mouth which is laced with liquid nitrogen, that then crystalizes into a projectile. Ice Slasher (アイススラッシャー) Yes
DRN-006 Bomb Man Bomb Man (ボンバーマン Bomber Man) Also designed for land reclamation work. He and Guts Man were originally intended to work as a pair, with Guts Man functioning as a foreman. Bomb Man seems to be a bit immature, which can be dangerous as he treats his bombs carelessly. He can make various forms of explosives, most of which are deadly. Hyper Bomb (ハイパーボム) Yes (Renamed Blasterman.exe in the dubbed version of series to eliminate the use of the word 'bomb'.)
DRN-007 Fire Man Fire Man (ファイアーマン) Designed for waste management work; in particular incineration. Built to withstand temperatures in excess of 8000 °C. He can surround himself in a circle of flame and shoot balls of fire with impressive destructive properties. His power is lowered if the fire on his head is out. Fire Man believed he was destroying evil with his "Flame of Justice", but in reality, he was being controlled by Dr. Wily. Fire Storm (ファイヤーストーム) Yes (Known as TorchMan.exe in the anime dub)
DRN-008 Elec Man Elec Man (エレキマン) Designed to oversee and control atomic energy power plants. At the time of his creation, Elec Man was often hailed as Dr. Light's greatest creation and boasts superhuman calculation speed and razor-sharp judgement, as well as a physical agility that would not be matched for some time. He is very conceited and egotistical, but is otherwise very responsible and competent. His mode of attack centers around him throwing electrically charged wires and later, compressed balls of electric energy. Fans consider Elec Man one of the hardest bosses the Mega Man series has, as Mega Man has a severe weakness to his Thunder Beam, and can be destroyed within three of its standard blasts. To counter this, he can be equally weak to Cut Man's Rolling Cutter. Thunder Beam (サンダービーム) Yes

The following Robot Masters are from Powered Up. Their actual numbers are not known, but they are created by Keiji Inafune himself *, and their presence at the time of the first game would logically make them part of the DRN series. Time Man is clock-based, while Oil Man is oil-themed.

Image Name Short Description Weapon NetNavi Counterpart
DRN-009? Time Man (タイムマン) Dr. Light's pioneering experiment in the creation of time travelling. He can slow the passage of time for brief intervals. Time Man should not be confused with Mega Man 2's Flash Man; Flash Man's power is to stop time, while Time Man merely slows it down. In Mega Man Powered Up, Dr. Wily calls Time Man "unfinished" when you play as Time Man; some fans speculate he may be a possible prototype model for Flash Man. Another possibility is since Dr. Wily calls Time Man unfinished; if he were finished, he would have the same time freezing ability that Flash Man has. No picture of Time Man smiling has been seen, so from first glance, he appears to be somewhat moody. He is certainly more serious than the other DRN models. The dialogue that occurs prior ro the fight with the copy robot seems to imply he is smarter then the other DRN modols. He appears to hold a grudge against Elec Man for an unknown reason, presumably due to his weakness to the Thunder Beam. Time Slow (タイムスロー) No
DRN-010? Oil Man (オイルマン) A new type of high performance robot designed for maintenance. Oil for robots can be made inside his body and output through his arm cannon. He is stereotypically streetwise, and is good buddies with Bomb Man. The Slider is an oil slick-shaped as a snowboard which allows the user to move fast and attack enemies upon impact. In the Japanese version, Oil Man looks like a blackface character. He has been changed in other versions to be blue with yellow lips instead of the possibly offensive black with pink lips. Oil Slider (オイルスライダー) No
In the remake of the original Mega Man game, Powered Up (Rockman Rockman in Japan), all of Mega Man's brothers, even Proto Man (who wasn't even introduced until Mega Man III), become playable. Completing all of the challenges in Challenge Mode unlocks Proto Man as a playable character. The other Robot Masters become available after defeating them in New Style using the Mega Buster; this is explained in-game as Dr. Light restoring them to their original programming. All of them possess special skills besides weapons:

Robot Master Special skill
Cut Man Triangular jumps on narrow parallel walls. The difference between this jump and those of S Rank Reploids is that Cut Man cannot scale a single wall this way.
Guts Man A cubic container composed of rocks is formed to be stepped on or thrown. He can also break certain blocks by jumping into them from below or landing on them.
Ice Man Enemies frozen by the Ice Slasher can be used as a stepping stone. Also cannot slide on ice.
Bomb Man Hyper Bombs can be shot at varied angles.
Fire Man If doused by water, can re-light flame on his head by touching other flames; melts ice blocks on contact.
Elec Man Can activate moving blocks by electrifying them with Thunder Beam.
Time Man Shooting clock hands diagonally up and down.
Oil Man Cannot slip on oil.

Mega Man himself comes in four variations: Mega Man (standard), Mega Man S (Mega Man from Mega Man 3), Mega Man C (Mega Man from Mega Man 4 onwards), and Mega (unarmored). Roll is also a playable character as a download, and her standard form is shown to be wielding a type of broom. (She also gets downloadable monthly costumes, and she gets a different combat weapon with all but the Mega Man 8 costume. For example, Knight Roll wields a lance, while Ninja Roll attacks with a katana. These weapons function the same as the broom, however.) Prior to the broom, she has been shown utilizing a "Roll Buster" she keeps in her shoe in the Marvel vs. Capcom series (a common misconception is that she keeps it up her skirt), as well as a similar arm cannon in the Ruby Spears cartoon. However, the Roll Buster is in a crossover spinoff with a different company, and the Ruby Spears cartoon takes various liberties with the games' continuity, so the canonicity of these weapons is in doubt.

DWN series

DWN is the series code for Robot Masters that have been built or modified by Dr. Wily.
Starting with Mega Man 2, Capcom ran an annual Robot Master design contest. Nintendo Power magazine ran a similar contest, but only for Mega Man 6. The DWN series is the result of these contests. The original designer's name is listed in parenthesis at the end of each entry.
Contrary to popular belief, most DWN robots were not built from scratch by Dr. Wily.
A sequel to Mega Man Powered Up has been confimed to be in pre-planning stages *, so there's a chance the Mega Man 2 Robot Masters will be included as playable characters similar to the Robot Masters of the first.

009-016 (Mega Man 2)
Image Name Short Description Weapon NetNavi Counterpart
DWN-009 Metal Man (メタルマン) Metal Man was designed by Wily as a modification of Cut Man's design. Unfortunately, due to an error in design, Metal Man developed a strong weakness to Mega Man's Mega Buster. His weapon, the Metal Blade, is a targeted projectile made of cermicaltitan that easily slices through most materials. Strangely, the Metal Blade will destroy Metal Man in two hits (and even one single hit in the easy difficulty version of Mega Man 2). Nevertheless, he has the ability to jump into the air and attack his foe with a flurry of buzzsaws. (Masanori Satou) Metal Blade (メタルブレード) Yes (Known as HeavyMetalMan in the anime dub)
DWN-010 Air Man (エアーマン) Air Man resulted from Wily's experiments in creating Robot Masters that did not use the same internal architecture as the general humanoid model, commonplace since DRN-000. Air Man's weapon is Air Shooter. He is believed to have a strong rivalry with Wind Man. He can create a wall of small tornadoes that act as shields and fling them at Mega Man as an offensive weapon. (Yuji Kanazawa) Air Shooter (エアーシューター) Yes
DWN-011 Bubble Man (バブルマン) Wily designed Bubble Man for underwater combat, but due to an error in design, Bubble Man's internal buoyancy system made it impossible for him to swim or walk properly, hampering his underwater mobility. This mistake has apparently been fixed since then, as observed in Mega Man: The Power Fighters. Bubble Man's weapon is Bubble Lead; bubbles of water laced with lead, giving them a heavy property and allowing them to roll forward and damage opponents. (Takashi Tanaka) Bubble Lead (バブルリード) Yes
DWN-012 Quick Man (クイックマン) Quick Man was designed by Wily as a modification of Elec Man's design. Wily vastly improved Elec Man's already lightning-fast reflexes and general design mobility, making Quick Man (in 20XX at least) the fastest Robot Master in the world. Like Bass, Quick Man has disobeyed Wily in certain circumstances and sided with Mega Man. He is able to launch Quick Boomerangs that are even faster than he is. In the manga, he has a crush on Plum. (Hirofumi Mizoguchi) Quick Boomerang (クイックブーメラン) Yes
DWN-013 Crash/Clash Man (クラッシュマン) Crash Man was designed by Wily to withstand strong explosions. For this purpose, he has superhuman agility and a special armor coating. He takes advantage of this resistance by use of heavy-duty Crash Bombs. These bombs are able to burrow into any surface and detonate on a short timer. (Akira Yoshida) Crash/Clash Bomb (クラッシュボム) No
DWN-014 Flash Man (フラッシュマン) In an experiment attempting to develop control over time, Wily built Flash Man, an improvement over Time Man's design. He can freeze time momentarily with the Time Stopper, as opposed to merely slowing it down like Time Man. The process uses far too much power to be useful however, and is easily countered - but Flash Man likes to take advantage of his ability to play practical jokes on unsuspecting victims. His battle abilities are below par, and he cannot sustain too much damage. (Tomoo Yamaguchi) Time Stopper (タイムストッパー) Yes
DWN-015 Heat Man (ヒートマン) Wily, utilizing the schematics of Fire Man, created Heat Man as a high-temperature combat robot. Heat Man's armored container is impervious to temperatures in excess of 12000 °C, but to be fully effective, he must remain sealed. This gives his body a rather amusing Zippo lighter shape. Heat Man's weapon, Atomic Fire, creates a slowly-growing flame that surrounds Heat Man's armored container. He may also ignite his body and hurl himself at opponents with startling destructive results. (Toshiyuki Kataoka) Atomic Fire (アトミックファイヤー) Yes
DWN-016 Wood Man (ウッドマン) Wily made Wood Man entirely of Hinoki Cypress. Wood Man also has a thin protective coating, but cannot withstand high temperatures. He has the ability to call together a razor-sharp Leaf Shield that can also be used as a projectile. He uses this shield in unison with a series of four more leaves that drift from the ceiling. (Masakatsu Ichikawa) Leaf Shield (リーフシールド) Yes

017-024 (Mega Man 3)
Image Name Short Description Weapon NetNavi Counterpart
DWN-017 Needle Man (ニードルマン) Can launch heavy, armor-piercing needles in rapid succession. He has impressive jumping abilities despite his size, and has formidable melee skills, able to strike forward with the three spikes crowning his head. (Nobuhiko Akatsuka) Needle Cannon (ニードルキャノン) Yes (Renamed Spikeman.exe in the dub in fear the word 'needle' may be refrenced with drugs.)
DWN-018 Magnet Man (マグネットマン) A magnet on his head can attract his metal enemies to their doom. His main method of attack is to jump high into the air and launch three magnet missiles that then rain down on his opponent. He is also obsessed with magnetic therapy, despite being a robot. His usefulness out of battle is also hampered, seeing as how his mere presence can cause computers to go haywire. (Nagashi Kii) 'Magnet Missile'' (マグネットミサイル) Yes
DWN-019 Gemini Man (ジェミニマン) With a hologram-generating device, he can duplicate himself and fire powerful reflecting laser blasts. Though this method is a potent attack, his power is split between his copies, and when split, he cannot fire his potent Gemini Laser. Both Gemini Men are vulnerable. It is notable that Gemini Man is a narcissist, which comes from his duplication. (Yoshihito Hattori) Gemini Laser (ジェミニレーザー) No
DWN-020 Hard Man (ハードマン) Has a very solid shell made of cermicaltitan, and uses his own weight of 3 tons to attack. A propulsion system running through the center of his body gives him incredible jumping abilities. He can fire his forearms like missiles, which immediately return to him. (Kazuhiko Oguro) Hard Knuckle (ハードナックル) No
DWN-021 Top Man (タップマン) With his auto balance system, he can spin like a human top and throw spinning tops. The wheels on his feet make him very fast, and while spinning, he is impossible to hit without the projectile glancing off his spinning form. (Yasushi Konjiki) Top Spin (タップスピン) Yes
DWN-022 Snake Man (スネークマン) Dressed like a snake, he launches mechanical Search Snakes which move and even scale walls in search of a target. He moves very erratically, making him hard to predict. (Yuhjiro Ishitani) Search Snake (サーチスネーク) Yes
DWN-023 Spark Man (スパークマン) An electric robot who generates spark currents. He was originally not created as a Robot Master, but was put into service due to the slow development of Thunder Man, who was currently being built by Wily, but was destroyed in the collapse of Wily's third Skull Fortress (incidently, Thunder Man was a NetNavi in the Battle Network series). When he taps his arms against the top of his head, he sends out a potent electrical pulse. His electricity-generating power is twice as high as Elec Man's. (Mikihiro Suzuki) Spark Shock (スパークショック) Yes
DWN-024 Shadow Man (シャドーマン) A mysterious ninja robot made with extraterrestrial materials. He is very fast, can darken the room, and throw shurikens covered in a special kind of liquid that can induce insanity. His melee abilities are also potent, as he knows several forms of martial arts. (Takumine Yoshida) Shadow Blade (シャドーブレード) Yes

025-032 (Mega Man 4)
Each of the Robot Masters numbered 025-032 were designed by Dr. Cossack; they are therefore more correctly labelled with the DCN series code. Dr. Wily did modify them, however, and some games (such as Mega Man & Bass) classify them as DWN. Also, the game itself lists three of the Robot Masters with the wrong identification codes.*

Image Name Short Description Weapon NetNavi Counterpart
DCN-025 Bright Man (ブライトマン) Created for emergency illumination and rescue work. His weapon, called the Flash Stopper, sends out a powerful wave of electricity of up to 10 million watts to stun opponents (robots' camera eyes), which takes the form of a brief and instantaneous flash of light. (Yoshitaka Enomoto) Flash Stopper (フラッシュストッパー) Yes
DCN-026 Toad Man (トードマン) Created for agricultural use; specifically, terraforming. Toad Man's "Rain Flush" is actually caused by floating devices which can expel tremendous amounts of liquid in the form of raindrops over large areas. However, after Dr. Wily converted him for evil purposes, the devices were modified to unleash Acid Rain instead. Toad Man has impressive jumping abilities and is very heavy, allowing him to trample opponents with his person. He does a rain dance to "summon" the Rain Flush. The game lists his identification code as DCN-029. (Atsushi Ootsuka) Rain Flush (レインフラッシュ) Yes
DCN-027 Drill Man (ドリルマン) Created for underground tunnel construction work. Drill Man's Drill Bomb punctures through rock and metals, and then explodes within them to break up as much material as possible with one blast. This is also what makes the Drill Bomb a deadly and effective weapon against armored opponents. One of his abilities is to cut through solid rock like a shark through water. (Masayuki Hoshi) Drill Bomb (ドリルボム) Yes (An unrelated Navi named Drillmaha.exe was mistakenly named DrillMan.exe in the anime dub. DrillMan.exe himself was not renamed, which causes confusion among American viewers not aware of the changes in the show)
DCN-028 Pharaoh Man (ファラオマン) Created for archaeological excavation. The pharaoh motif was intended to ward off curses (deadly traps in pyramids). His Pharaoh Shot can be charged to unleash bursts of solar energy. He was later given the ability to teleport and float. The game lists his identification code as DCN-026. (Takayuki Ebara) Pharaoh Shot (ファラオショット), Pharaoh Wave (ファラオウェーブ) Yes
DCN-029 Ring Man (リングマン) Created expressly for anti-Mega Man combat as a modification of an earlier police-robot design. The Ring Boomerang is a spin on a traditional Japanese weapon, a bladed ring (chakram?). The rings are capable of being thrown, and as their name implies, return to the user. The game lists his identification code as DCN-028. (Hiromi Uchida) Ring Boomerang (リングブーメラン) Yes (Possibly the female Navi Ring from Battle Chip Challenge)
DCN-030 Dust Man (ダストマン) Created for industrial sanitation projects, Dust Man's weapon is a bomb covered in thick layers of scrap metal. Its explosion sends debris off in several directions, making it a difficult to avoid attack. The large vent on his head can draw air in very fast, moving physical matter (including his opponent) towards him. (Yuusuke Murata) Dust Crusher/Dust Crasher (ダストクラッシャー) Yes
DCN-031 Dive Man (ダイブマン) Created for deep sea exploration, with a propulsion system installed. This robot's Dive Missiles possess homing abilities. Though the name implies otherwise, Dive Missiles work perfectly fine out of the water as well. His propulsion system launches him forward, crashing into any target. This attack is ineffective on land, however. (Suguru Nakayama) Dive Missile (ダイブミサイル) Yes
DCN-032 Skull Man (スカルマン) Created for wartime combat purposes. Skull Man balances offensive and defensive strengths and is a skilled mercenary. His skull motif is used as a kind of psychological warfare tactic against human opponents, and his Skull Barrier is not only impenetrable, but also capable of damaging enemies that come in contact with it. (Toshiyuki Miyachi) Skull Barrier (スカルバリアー) Yes

033-040 (Mega Man 5)
Image Name Short Description Weapon NetNavi Counterpart
DWN-033 Gravity Man (グラビティーマン) A robot dedicated to research, Gravity Man can manipulate local gravity with an internal gravitation control device. His Gravity Hold hurls airborne enemies into the upper atmosphere by unleashing a gravitational force of up to 20 G, immediately followed by a minus pull (upward/reversed/anti-gravity). (Yukino Mori) Gravity Hold (グラビティーホールド) Yes
DWN-034 Wave Man (ウェーブマン) To dominate the world, Wily figured out how to control sources of water. Wave Man occupies a water quality control facility. He wields a powerful harpoon launcher on his arm. His Water Wave unleashes a surge of water along the ground. He is just as potent on land as he is underwater, unlike the previous aquatic Robot Masters. (Hideyuki Monno) Water Wave (ウォーターウェーブ) No
DWN-035 Stone Man (ストーンマン) Stone Man has a body made of separable stones. He also has a jumping ability that he uses to crush things under his weight. He can manipulate the rock on his body, hurling it at foes or repairing damaged bricks on his body. (Kenta Oonishi) Power Stone (パワーストーン) Yes
DWN-036 Gyro Man (ジャイロマン) When Gyro Man was created, Dr. Wily made him propeller-driven in order to cut costs. He often injures others unintentionally with his propeller blades. He can throw the propeller on his head like a razor-bladed boomerang. (Katsunari Oguri) Gyro Attack (ジャイロアタック) Yes
DWN-037 Star Man (スターマン) Designed for space exploration, Star Man longs to reach the end of the universe. Now he occupies a satellite base. His Star Crash ability creates an energy barrier that protects against enemy attacks, which he can fling at enemies. (Tatsumi Saegusa) Star Crash (スタークラッシュ) Yes (Known as Novaman.Exe in the english dub of the anime)
DWN-038 Charge Man (チャージマン) Designed for global transport, Charge Man is coal-powered, thus costing a fortune to keep powered. His Charge Kick ability provides a quick burst of speed, and he can fire red-hot coal rocks out of his smokestack. (Toshiaki Sugiura) Charge Kick (チャージキック) Yes
DWN-039 Napalm Man (ナパームマン) Built for heavy jungle combat and as a guard for Dr. Wily's secret arsenal. He is equipped with heavily destructive dual Napalm Bomb launchers on his arms, which throw pairs of explosives upward in an arc. He is also able to launch straight-flying rockets in groups of three when standing still. Strangely enough, he only jumps to move, never utilizing the tank treads that he uses as feet to "roll" forward. Later, however, he is propelled forward by both his treads on his feet and a rocket on his back. (Shinichirou Seki) Napalm Bomb (ナパームボム) Yes (Known as Moltanicman.exe in the English dub of the anime to remove use of the word 'Napalm'.)
DWN-040 Crystal Man (クリスタルマン) Designed to provide income for Wily's operations, Crystal Man has the ability to create artificial crystals, which double as dangerous rebounding weapons capable of splitting into smaller orbs. (Yuusuke Murata) Crystal Eye (クリスタルアイ) No
? DWN-0?? Dark Man (ダークマン) Designed as another cover for his scheme, Dr. Wily copied Proto Man's data and stole the above listed robots. He has the ability to don the appearance of others, and he is battle-capable. He has no noteworthy combat abilities, however. Later he was destroyed by Mega Man after being revealed as a fake by the real Proto Man. There are actually four of them: a tank-like shooter, a walking shooter, a barrier-using walker, and the last one who copied Proto Man - a walking shooter using barriers. (Copy) Yes

041-048 (Mega Man 6)
The plot of Mega Man VI is that a robot design contest takes place, sponsored by the mysterious Mr. X (later revealed to be Dr. Wily in disguise.) Mr. X steals the eight finalists and reprograms them. So technically, the DWN moniker is inaccurate, as they were built by a variety of people.

Image Name Short Description Weapon NetNavi Counterpart
DWN-041 Blizzard Man (ブリザードマン) Originally an Antarctic exploration robot, Blizzard Man was once a ski instructor in Russia. After being modified for combat, he was given the ability to create snow. He uses his great size to crush opponents by barreling into them. (Hirofumi Ogawa) Blizzard Attack (ブリザードアタック) Yes
DWN-042 Centaur Man (ケンタウロスマン) Before the tournament began, Centaur Man was built by a Greek company to serve as a guide around the monuments of ancient Greece, such as the Parthenon. When the company decided to enter him, he was given a time/space distorter that allowed him to teleport or cause stretches in the time/space continuum which could temporarily freeze enemies. He is also equipped with a plasma rifle whose shots break into seven bullets when they rebound off a wall. He often tramples foes as an alternate method of attack. (Kazuki Kidoguchi) Centaur Flash (in Mega Man 6) (ケンタウロスフラッシュ), Centaur Arrow (in Mega Man 2: The Power Fighters) (ケンタウロスアロー) No
DWN-043 Flame Man (フレイムマン) In Saudi Arabia, Flame Man was originally a refinery worker. Unlike most robots, Flame Man doesn't depend on solar energy for his power, instead relying on a special steam system run by petroleum. When his bosses wanted to enter him in the contest, they refitted him with an oil-powered flamethrower which can be used to shoot fireballs or unleash a wall of flame on his opponent. (Noritsugu Kurokawa) Flame Blast (フレイムブラスト) Yes
DWN-044 Knight Man (ナイトマン) Knight Man is the stereotypical medieval black knight. Originally a fighter entered by England, his main method of attack is using the large ball and chain on his left arm. In his right hand, he carries a nigh-invincible shield. He swings his morningstar-like weapon with great efficiency, but this leaves him open to attack. - (Daniel Vallie) Knight Crusher (ナイトクラッシャー) Yes
DWN-045 Plant Man (プラントマン) The fighter and originally a mascot of a botanical garden hailing from Brazil, his attack design is similar to that of Wood Man. He creates a shield of petal-shaped panels of energy, and hurls the shield at opponents. He is much more maneuverable than Wood Man, however. (Nobuhiro Hoshino) Plant Barrier (プラントバリア) Yes (Known as Vineman.exe in the English dub of the anime)
DWN-046 Tomahawk Man (トマホークマン) Tomahawk Man's main weapon is his arm mounted, projectile tomahawk. He can also fling razor-edged feathers from his headdress. He hails from the midwest U.S., as to his appearance. (Yoshinobu Suda) Silver Tomahawk (シルバートマホーク) Yes
DWN-047 Wind Man (ウィンドマン) Wind Man was entered from China, with the ability to fire his shoulder-mounted propellers at foes. He can also draw and repel air with great power, and he can lift into the air despite his large size, then use his great mass to crush his opponents under his feet. (Michael Leader) Wind Storm (ウィンドストーム) Yes
DWN-048 Yamato Man (ヤマトマン) Yamato Man wields a spear in combat. His lightweight armor does not affect his maneuverability. Not only can he use his spear with great finesse in melee combat, but he can fire the spearhead at enemies from a distance. It must be retrieved afterwards, however. He can also leap into the air and shower the battlefield with spearheads. (Rai Ichikawa) Yamato Spear (ヤマトスピア) Yes (Known as JapanMan.exe in the English version)

049-056 (Mega Man 7)
Image Name Short Description Weapon NetNavi Counterpart
DWN-049 Freeze Man (フリーズマン) Freeze Man was originally created as part of a project of an environmentally friendly energy production experiment. The experiment was to design a method to harvest the thermal energy of the surrounding environment. Freeze Man's job was to reduce the temperature of the energy collection system to allow for optimal energy assorbtion and to work the physical aspects of the experiment. (Shigeaki Sakamoto) Freeze Cracker (フリーズクラッカー) Yes
DWN-050 Junk Man (ジャンクマン) Junk Man's body is held together by a series of electromagnets. He was designed to collect parts from garbage that could be used for building robots. (Jun Akiba) Junk Shield (ジャンクシールド) Yes (Known as Junkdataman.exe in the English dub anime)
DWN-051 Burst Man (バーストマン) Burst Man is a deep sea combat robot armed with mines. The mines are encased in bubbles that wrap around their target, preventing escape. (Keishi Tsuchiya) Danger Wrap (デンジャーラップ) No
DWN-052 Cloud Man (クラウドマン) Cloud Man floats through the air with the aid of an anti-gravity device. He was originally created as an experimental weather monitoring and control device. (Isao Nakagiri) Thunder Bolt/Thunder Strike (サンダーストライク) Yes
DWN-053 Spring Man (スプリングマン) Spring Man's body is comprised of 2,000 springs, which gives him unprecedented jumping capabilities. (Akira Ito) Wild Coil (ワイルドコイル) No
DWN-054 Slash Man (スラッシュマン) An animal-like robot designed for jungle exploration. His claws are lethally sharp and long, giving him a deadly slash attack. His design was adapted from the Stardroid Pluto. Some people usually compare him with the X-Men character Wolverine from Marvel comics. (Yoichi Amano) Slash Claw (スラッシュクロー) Yes
DWN-055 Shade Man (シェードマン) A vampire robot designed as a fun house attraction. He sees using his Noise Crush attack; his sound waves bounce off walls much like a bat's sonar. Upon receiving the amplified sounds waves, he can blast them back out at incredible force. (Tetsuya Watada) Noise Crush/Crash Noise/Crush Noise (クラッシュノイズ) Yes
DWN-056 Turbo Man (ターボマン) Turbo Man looks very much like a Transformer. He also happens to follow the Transformer tradition of being able to morph from vehicle to robot at any given time. His signature weapon is the Scorch Wheel, which is a group of spinning fireballs that rotate in a 'wheel' fashion, hence the name. This weapon is highly destructive and very capable of setting things on fire. (Takashi Kino) Scorch Wheel/Burning Wheel (バーニングホイール) Yes

057-064 (Mega Man 8)
Image Name Short Description Weapon NetNavi Counterpart
DWN-057 Tengu Man (テングマン) An experimental weather-control robot modeled after the tengu. He tends to look down on people, thinking that he is superior. His attacks are Tornado Hold, which causes a small tornado and sometimes encases enemies in the vortex, and Tengu Blade, a blade that can either be held forward while sliding or dashing or be thrown at enemies. He makes a reappearance in Mega Man & Bass. Tornado Hold (in Mega Man 8) (トルネードホールド), Tengu Blade (in Mega Man & Bass) (テングブレード) Yes
DWN-058 Astro Man (アストロマン) Built from abandoned planetarium parts, Wily intended Astro Man to hypnotize observers in the planetarium. By manipulating the dimensional space around him, Astro Man can create a virtual-reality subspace, an ability which makes him incredibly talented at hide-and-seek. He is easily startled by anyone. Astro Man was not built for battle, as the indirect nature of his attacks, Astro Crush and Copy Vision, can attest. He makes a reappearance in Mega Man & Bass. Astro Crush (in Mega Man 8) (アストロクラッシュ), Copy Vision (in Mega Man & Bass) (コピービジョン) No
DWN-059 Sword Man (ソードマン) Wily once stole an ancient sword from a museum. The sword was so large, however, that he could find no use for it, so he made Sword Man to use it as a weapon. However, the sword was still too heavy for Sword Man to lift. For this reason, Sword Man's upper body and lower body were split, allowing them to move independently, and a gyroscopic stabilizer was installed in the upper half. His personality is that of an honorable knight. His attack channels energy through the sword to cause a burst of flame, and is therefore called the Flame Sword. (Keigo Matsuo) Flame Sword (フレイムソード Yes
DWN-060 Clown Man (クラウンマン) Wily stole Clown Man from the set of a cancelled sci-fi show and remodeled him using props. His arms are able to extend several times longer than his own body, a fact that amuses Wily to no end. Because of the attention he gets from them, Clown Man is very proud of his long arms. His attacks are electricity-based: the Thunder Claw grabs opponents with an electrified arm, and Thunder Carnival electrifies his whole body. (Hiroshige Sakai) Thunder Claw (サンダークロー) No
DWN-061 Search Man (サーチマン) Using parts from a decommissioned security robot, Wily added an extra head to Search Man. However, instead of adding to the abilities of this surveillance robot, the heads tend to watch each other rather than look for intruders. Using guerrilla tactics, they try to ambush opponents with a barrage of missiles called the "Homing Sniper". (Yuuta Hat) Homing Sniper (ホーミングスナイパー) Yes
DWN-062 Frost Man (フロストマン) During Clown Man's remodeling, Wily went a little overboard ordering parts; Frost Man was built to use the extras. Wily had enough spare parts so that he could install an ice machine inside Frost Man, allowing him to produce icicle spikes on the ground in an attack called the Ice Wave. Although he shows limited intelligence, he seems able to do ice sculpturing; he uses this talent to create life-size ice statues of Mega Man, which he then crushes. (Akifumi Nomura) Ice Wave (アイスウェーブ) No
DWN-063 Grenade Man (グレネードマン) Due to Grenade Man's faulty programming, he cannot discriminate between targets and allies, and tends to attack anyone and anything, including himself - his personality is that of a masochist. His attack is called the Flash Bomb, and is a stunning concussion grenade. (Kenichirou Komaki) Flash Bomb (フラッシュボム) No
DWN-064 Aqua Man (アクアマン) Aqua Man is the result of Wily's first attempt to build Frost Man's ice machine. Instead of scrapping him, Wily gave him a water tank and sent him to a water treatment facility to train. His attacks are the Water Cannon and Water Balloon. (Morito Kuriki) Water Balloon (ウォーターバルーン) Yes (Known as SpoutMan.exe in the English anime dub and then in the English version of the games since Battle Network 6, probably to prevent any problems with DC Comics)

KGN series
KGN is the series code for robots designed by King, a robot created by Dr. Wily to cover for one of his schemes for world domination. Like the DWN series, each KGN robot's name ends in "man". The KGN series appeared in Mega Man & Bass (in Japan, Rockman & Forte). Tengu Man and Astro Man (both from Mega Man 8) are also part of King's robot army.

Image Name Short Description Weapon NetNavi Counterpart
KGN-001 Dynamo Man (ダイナモマン) He was originally a tour guide for children at a power plant. King modified him with an internal power generator. The power from this generator is too much for his body to stand, causing unstable feedback to anyone who goes near him. Because of this, he is somewhat antisocial, yet he yearns to be as he was in the old days. His attack is the Lightning Bolt. Lightning Bolt (ライトニングボルト) No
KGN-002 Cold Man (コールドマン) Designed by Dr. Light to monitor the freezers for dinosaur DNA. King modified him to be a guardian. The center of his body is always at close to absolute zero, causing him to have slow movement. His attack, Ice Wall, allows him to make a brick of ice and push it as a projectile; he can also use it as a mode of transportation. Ice Wall (アイスウォール) Yes (Known as Fridgeman.Exe in the English dub of the anime)
KGN-003 Ground Man (グランドマン) Designed to excavate ruins. He joined King's army in order to collect treasures. He is one of King's strongest guardians, but he rarely talks or shows emotions. He also likes to horde treasures for himself without telling King. His attack is Spread Drill. Spread Drill (グランドマン) Yes
KGN-004 Pirate Man (パイレーツマン) Built to raid on cargo ships in the open sea. He is said to be behind several raids and has a massive stash of goods underwater. His attack is Remote Mine, an electromagnetic mine that attaches to the enemy and then explodes. Remote Mine (リモートマイン) No
KGN-005 Burner Man (バーナーマン) Created to destroy waste. However, King lied to him, saying "You must burn a forest every day or your self-destruct bomb will explode." His attack is Wave Burner. Wave Burner (ウェーブバーナー) Yes (Known as Burnman.exe in the English version of Battle Network 4. Name restored to Burnerman in English dub of anime)
KGN-006 Magic Man (マジックマン) A former member of the King Army Circus Group, he enlisted as a guardian, thinking it would make him cool. He likes to research magic and illusions as well as fortune telling, but just to impress his peers. Is considered to be somewhat of a geek. His attack, Magic Card, is a razor sharp playing card that shoots in a straight path. Magic Card (マジックカード) Yes

Special series

Generally, these robots have unknown or special origins, and have unique numbers or no number at all.
  • Forte (Bass) (フォルテ) - Weapon: Forte/Bass Buster - A robot built by Dr. Wily specifically to counter Mega Man. Some sources give him the identification code SWN-001 or Special Wily Numbered Force. See Bass.
  • Rightot (Auto) - Dr. Light's personal assistant. Able to build various devices from bolts and screws. Likes to wave around a Japanese flag fan.
  • Duo - A robot from space that came to Earth to search for an alien "Evil Energy" as part of his personal mission. He crashed on Earth and nearly got destroyed. Dr. Light fixed him by attaching his salvaged parts onto a new body, giving him a rather strange Frankenstein-esque appearance. He aided Mega Man in Mega Man 8 when Dr. Wily found a cache of Evil Energy left over from one of Duo's fights.
  • Quint (クイント) - Weapon: Sakugarne (サクガーン) - A mysterious time-traveller who is said to be another alias of Rock (Mega), except from the future. Quint's identification code is unknown and usually labelled as "???-???", but if his backstory is correct, he is really DRN-001. His backstory appears to be the truth, and he doesn't appear to be an original Mega Man Killer series robot.
  • Sungod (Sunstar)- A forgotten doomsday weapon discovered by Wily. He commands incredible power, but exists only to destroy. He refuses to obey Wily's orders upon being activated and, after shooting down the watching scientist, challenges Mega Man to a final battle. He is one of the few characters that have been the final boss of a classic series game besides Dr. Wily.
  • King - A robot created by Dr. Wily to eventually use as a cover for one of his schemes for world domination.
  • Chest - One of three announcer robots for the Battle and Chase racing tournament. Chest is the "anchor" of the group. (He is largely absent from the American and European version.)
  • Plum - Plum is the second of the three Battle and Chase announcers. She is a mobile interviewer, equipped with high-speed wheels on both feet to cover the races from the ground.
  • Report - The diminutive aerial reporter for the Battle and Chase tournament. He works with Plum and Chest to cover the tournament.
  • La Thor - A underdeveloped character who is the penultimate boss of Superadventure Rockman. He is an extraterrestrial robot built by La Moon, along with fellow creation La Devil.
  • Mega Man? - In Mega Man Powered Up, if the player plays as one of the boss Robot Masters, Dr. Wily will apparently steal Mega Man as well. However on the stage select screen, there is a question mark after his name, and after choosing him, Dr. Wily's "W" symbol appears next to his name, rather than Dr. Light's "L" symbol, as is the case with the other Robot Masters. Furthermore, Elec Man notes that "Mega Man's eyes are not clouded like a thunder storm", he openly admits he is someone else prior to the fight with Cut Man, and he expresses dismay at being "figured out" when other Robot Masters question his identity, proving beyond a shadow of a doubt that this Mega Man is an imposter. His appearance from the real Mega Man differs slightly: his helmet has a triangle instead of a square, he wears a purple scarf, and he is prone to bearing a psychotic expression on his face. When he is reached with Time Man, it is apparent that he considers himself smarter than the original. Due to the fact that a "Mega Man Powered Up 2" has been confirmed, Mega Man? may reappear if you play as a robot master (if playing as a robot master is still included in the game).
  • Copy Robot - Although appearing to be merely an exact replica of Mega Man in the original Mega Man game, in Mega Man Powered Up it is revealed as a robot who can copy the appearance, abilities, but at the same time also the weaknesses of any adversary. In the battle with Time Man, it is noted that it also copies the original's level of intelligence, and when battling Roll, it seems even able to copy the memories of the original to some degree. Its personality doesn't change however, always retaining the same overconfident and generally evil attitude. The fact that all Robot Masters, after being destroyed, return for a rematch in Dr. Wily's fortress in all Mega Man games could perhaps be explained by them all being Copy Robots, though this is pure speculation.
  • ??? - A robot that Duo fought in the opening of Mega Man 8. It is unclear if it should be considered a robot master. "???" is simply a name that was made since the name of the robot is unknown. The fate of this robot is unknown since it wasn't addressed in the game. At the end of the game when an energy ball engulfs Mega Man, some speculate it could be this robot who fired since there isn't anything to support Wily having anything to do with it (especially since he just looks on shocked). Other theories state that it wasn't a robot at all, but a physical manifestation of pure Evil Energy.

Non-canon Robot Masters

Not all games published by Capcom are regarded as canon. Occasionally, licensed but apparently non-canon games will make their own Robot Masters rather than using some from prior games.

Mega Man (PC)
  • Dynaman - Weapon: Nuclear Detonator
  • Sonicman - Weapon: Sonic Wave
  • Voltman - Weapon: Force Field

Mega Man III (PC)
The Robot Masters here are redesigns of previous Robot Masters:

  • Wave Man - Weapon: Water Shooter - Resembles Air Man. (Not the same Wave Man from Mega Man 5)
  • Torch Man - Weapon: Torch Arm - Resembles Magnet Man. (The TorchMan.exe in the MegaMan Battle Network anime is actually FireMan.exe, simply renamed for the English dub of the show. It is believed such change was made to not show any disrespect towards the brave firemen who took action on 9/11.)
  • Bit Man - Weapon: Bit Cannon - Has the head of Hard Man and the body of Spark Man.
  • Shark Man - Weapon: Shark Boomerang - Resembles Snake Man. (There's a SharkMan in MegaMan Battle Network, but currently there is no official Robot Master version.)
  • Blade Man - Weapon: Blade Launcher - Resembles Metal Man.
  • Oil Man - Weapon: Oil Stream - Resembles Flash Man. (Not the same Oil Man from Mega Man: Powered Up)

Dimensions series
A mysterious robot force which serves Rockman Shadow (Quint). They arrived from the future and destroyed Symphony City. Although they do not have a specific series code, they are known collectively as the Dimensions. These RMs appear in the WonderSwan game Challenger from the Future. As it was developed by Bandai, its status as canon cannot be confirmed, although Quint being a future Mega Man seems to be expanded upon.
  • Dangan Man (ダンガンマン) - Weapon: Rock Vulcan / Forte Vulcan (ロックバルカン/フォルテバルカン) - "Dangan" means bullet in Japanese.
  • Konro Man (コンロマン) - Weapon: Flame Shower / Flame Mixer (フレイムシャワー/フレイムミキサー) - "Konro" means stove in Japanese.
  • Aircon Man (エアコンマン) - Weapon: Barrier Wind / Forte Cyclone (バリアウィンド/フォルテサイクロン) - "Aircon" is the Japanese Romaji abbreviated version of air conditioner.
  • Komusou Man (コムソウマン) - Weapon: Doppel / Clash / Crash / Doppler Attack (ドッペルクラッシュ/ドップラーアタック) - "Komusou" means nothingness in Japanese. His appearance is inspired from "komusou monks" of Japanese local Fuke Zen.
  • Clock Men (クロックメン) - Weapon: Time Switch / Time Bomb (タイムスイッチ/タイムボム) - They are a duo of two Robot Masters that fight alongside. Unlike Search Man who has two minds or Gemini Man who can have two real split entities, the Clock Men are really two entities with two minds. The Clock Men are not the same as Time Man from Powered Up.
  • Compass Man (コンパスマン) - Weapon: (None) (-) - Similar to Sword Man, his body is separated into two halves and can temporarily work independently. He attacks mostly by bodily impacts and the only weakness is the gyroscopic stabalizer at the top of the lower body. He is also a friend of Rockman Shadow, as seen with rare dialogues between Rockman or Forte and him. (Compass Man is spelt as "Compas Man" in the boss introduction.)

Rockman Strategy
In this licensed game, new Robot Masters are introduced alongside old ones. Most of these robots are based on constallations.

Robot Masters in other media
Licensed Mega Man games aren't the only forms of media that create their own Robot Masters. Sometimes TV shows and comics introduce their own Robot Masters as well.
  • Garbage Man - A Robot Master who only appeared in the The Game Master episode "Mega Trouble For Megaland". He is created by Dr. Light to help Kevin and Mega Man battle the Robot Masters from the first Mega Man game. He is designed to trash the enemy Robot Masters. However, he was only interested in trashing Dr. Light's computer.
  • Barrage Man - A Robot Master who only appeared in the Dreamwave Mega Man comic. He is a giant Robot Master like Frost Man, but he is also stupid.
  • Express Man - A Robot Master who only appeared in the Dreamwave Mega Man comic. He is much like Quick Man in that he is a fast Robot Master.
  • Multi Man - A Robot Master who only appeared in the Dreamwave Mega Man comic. He is able to create multiple copies of himself, which in turn create their own copies as well.
