Robin McKinley (born November 16, 1952 as Jennifer Carolyn Robin Turrell McKinley) is a fantasy author especially known for her Newbery Medal-winning novel The Hero and the Crown. She has also won the Mythopoeic Award for Sunshine, the World Fantasy Award for Imaginary Lands, and the 1998 Phoenix Award honor book for A Retelling of the Story of Beauty and the Beast.

Biography


Robin McKinley grew up an only child with a military father. According to her, she moved around frequently as a child and read copiously; she credits this background with the inspiration for her stories. Currently married to a British writer, Peter Dickinson, McKinley lives in England.
