Robert Barton Englund (born June 6, 1947 in Glendale, California), is an American actor of Swedish descent.
He is best known for playing the fictional character Freddy Krueger in the horror film A Nightmare On Elm Street and its seven sequels. He received the Saturn Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor for A Nightmare On Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors (1987) and A Nightmare On Elm Street 4: The Dream Master (1988).
Since his first movie, Buster and Billie (1974), he has acted in nearly 70 movies and TV-series to date. This includes the V television franchise, where he gained his first major role as the lovably innocent Visitor, Willie. Englund also made a cameo appearance on the science fiction series, Babylon 5.
Englund's biggest starring role since Freddy vs. Jason has been as Mayor Buckman in the horror film 2001 Maniacs (2006), written by Chris Kobin and Tim Sullivan and directed by Tim Sullivan. The film was released by Lions Gate Entertainment.
Englund is currently directing his second feature titled Killer Pad, a horror-comedy about three friends who use money from an insurance claim to move out of their parents' homes. They score a place in the Hollywood Hills and refuse to believe that the house is actually a portal to hell.The first film that he directed was the horror-comedy 976-EVIL in 1989.
He resides in Laguna Beach, CA.
