The River Nith (Gd: Abhainn Nid) is a river in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland and passes through the towns of Sanquhar and Dumfries. The ecology of river is deteriorating fast particularly in its lower reaches, and particularly because of the large volumes of untreated sewage escaping into the river because of the inadequate drainage and sewage treatment system in Dumfries.
