Richard West Halsey (1955- ), is a Californian-based chaparral ecologist. He has published many articles about the chaparral's relationship to fire and how best to deal with wildfire risk. His primary work has focused on helping Californians reconnect with their local, natural environment. He also invented the Fire Square, which shows how catastrophic wildfires are created.
